Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, Eastern Railway is committed to bring forth complete facelift and overall redevelopment of various Amrit Stations. Towards ensuring a world-class experience for passengers. Sonarpur Railway Station of Sealdah Division, which is an important commercial area of Kolkata South suburban area, will now be a part of this Initiative and the progress and every detail is inspected at highest level.

This vision to modernize and revitalize Sonarpur station, is making substantial strides in its mission with continuous and untiring efforts of Eastern Railway, since the launch of Amrit Bharat station scheme by Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on August 6, 2023.

As a part of this station redevelopment work, the resurfacing work of Sonarpur platforms are in full swing. This crucial improvement will make boarding and disembarking from trains more accessible, especially for elderly and differently-abled passengers. Tiled surfaces provide better traction, reducing the risk of slip and fall accidents, especially during adverse weather conditions. Tiles used are known for their durability and longevity, making them resistant to wear and tear from heavy foot traffic and environmental factors. Tiled surface is also easier to clean and sanitize, contributing to improved hygiene. The station's aesthetic appeal will receive a facelift with pleasing design elements and landscaping.
