WESTERN RAILWAY OBSERVED ENERGY CONSERVATION WEEK

WR continues its winning streak at the National Energy Conservation Awards 2023

The Energy Conservation Week was observed over Western Railway from 07th to 14th December, 2023 with an aim to spread awareness of energy conservation and measures taken by WR to implement the same. National Energy Conservation Day is celebrated across the country on 14th December. During the week-long event, various awareness activities were carried out across all six divisions of Western Railway, including WR Headquarters, such as seminars & distribution of pamphlets, awareness SMS campaigns & caller tunes on CUG nos. of WR employees, public announcements at stations, etc. In this connection, a seminar was also held at WR Headquarters at Churchgate, which was attended by Principal Head of Departments, Divisional Railway Manager - Mumbai Central and senior officers of HQ, while the DRM's of other Divisions were present through Video Conferencing.

According to a press release issued by The Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, WR continued its winning streak at the prestigious National Energy Conservation Awards (NECA) 2023 conducted by Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, Govt. of India. Western Railway received Certificate of Merit in Transport Category and the Carriage Repair Workshop, Bhavnagar received Certificate of Merit in Industry Category. These awards were given by Smt. Droupadi Murmu, Hon'ble President of India and Shri. R. K. Singh, Hon'ble Minister of Power and Minister of New and Renewable Energy in a glittering function by Minister of Power, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on 14th December, 2023 and same were received by Shri Ranjan Srivastava, Pricipal Chief Electrical Engineer on behalf of Western Railway and Shri Gaurav Saraswat, Dy. Chief Mechanical Engineer/Works of Bhavnagar Workshop on behalf of Carriage Repair Workshop.

In 2023-24, Western Railway implemented numerous energy-efficient and environment-friendly measures to conserve energy for the future. WR installed rooftop solar plants of 12 MWp capacity. These plants have generated 8.17 MU of energy, resulting in notional saving of approx. Rs. 4.12 crore up to November, 2023. Additionally, these solar plants have reduced more than 17,520 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide per year. WR has done electrification of 152 RKM upto November, 2023, moving ahead in the goal towards 'Net Zero Carbon Emission'. All 153 LHB rakes, owned by WR are running on Head on Generation (HOG) which has resulted in savings of over Rs. 227 crore in the current FY 2023-24. WR has installed 64 natural water coolers, LED lights at all stations and are also installing 5-star rated equipment & occupancy sensors in AC chambers for energy conservation. Western Railway has set target to get BEE Shunya/Shunya+ labeling for buildings having connected load of 30kW and above. With these measures, Western Railway is committed to better the performance towards energyefficiency and clean environment in the following years.
