METRO RAILWAY OBSERVES 75TH REPUBLIC DAY

On 26th January, 2024, Metro Railway, Kolkata has observed the 75th Republic Day with enthusiasm and fervour. Shri P. Uday Kumar Reddy, General Manager, Metro Railway unfurled the National Flag at Metro Rail Bhavan this morning and took the Guard of Honour from Metro RPF.

In his address to the officers & staff of Metro Railway and Media persons, he spoke about the spectacular achievements of Metro Railway in various spheres in recent time, its glorious past and highlighted the phenomenal growth in passenger traffic by improving asset utilisation and efficiency in operations as well as opening new Metro routes. The GM specially focussed on the achievements of Passenger Amenities & Passenger Security and informed that the section of East-West Metro Corridor from Howrah Maidan to Esplanade (4.8 km), Section of Purple Line from Taratala to Majerhat  (1.24km) with EI, Section of Yellow Line from Noapara to Dum Dum Cantonment ( 2.84 km)  and Section of Orange Line from Kavi Subhash to Hemanta Mukhopadhyay ( 5.4 km) with EI will be commissioned in this year. In order to improve operations and punctuality, Commissioner of Railway Safety has given green signal to introduce Automatic Train Operation (ATO) system in Green Line, he mentioned and added QR Code Based Paper Ticketing System has been introduced in all the commissioned stations of East-West Metro.

Shri Reddy also stressed upon ensuring more safety, security, punctuality and augmenting amenities for the passengers and also urged upon Metro officers and staff to come forward for providing improved services to the commuters.

Later, a new canteen, ‘Annapurna’ was inaugurated by Smt. Anjana Sikdar, Canteen Assistant in presence of General Manager and other senior officers at Metro Rail Bhavan. A new car parking facility was inaugurated by Md. Arshad Hussain, Sr. Section Engineer and Shri A.K. Singh, Sr. Section Engineer at the basement of Metro Rail Bhavan this morning in presence of General Manager.  Gymnasiums, Children Parks were also inaugurated at Tollygunge Staff Quarters Complex and Tree Plantation was also organised there.

Smt. P Sreelatha, President, Metro Railway Women Welfare Organization (MRWWO) and other members of the organisation distributed fruits and utility items to the patients at Tapan Sinha Memorial Hospital today. At Tollygunge RPF Ladies Barrack, washing machine was also inaugurated by President, MRWWO.
